St. Mary's Church
Malpas
St. Mary's Church, Malpas is a grade II listed replacement of an earlier parish church, a rare example of a Victorian church built in a Neo-Norman style.
The existing building not satisfying the needs nor future aspirations of the expanding congregation, DSA explored how it could therefore be suitably altered and/or extended. The subsequent detailed Options Appraisal study concluded that:

a multi purpose Meeting Room offered the most flexible solution, with accompanying Kitchen and WC, and

the only location where such a significant extension was feasible was to the south of the existing Chancel. A new glazed 'cloister' links this new building with the church and via an existing (and infilled) door within the Nave. The size of these new buildings was however limited by the proximity of existing features, an existing Garden of Remembrance and stone wall retaining the churchyard above the adjacent Vicarage garden below.

The extension was opened by the Bishop of Monmouth in December 2013.
